Some locations in this world instantly take your breath away, and Sedona, Arizona is one of those places! With its stunning red rock formations, luxurious resorts and spas, and mystical atmosphere (ever heard of a vortex?), Sedona is unlike anywhere else — which makes it the perfect destination for some romance.

Sedona is about 120 miles north of Phoenix, making it a perfect day trip or weekend getaway from the city. It’s not far from Flagstaff and several Route 66 landmarks, and it’s just a 2-hour drive from the Grand Canyon, so you can combine several unique southwest destinations in one trip if you choose.

We’ve been to Sedona twice — once as a family and once just the two of us. While there’s lot of fun things for families to do, today I’ll be covering the most romantic things to do in Sedona. So grab your sweetie and start making some plans!

Sedona, Arizona is a beautiful and romantic destination for couples looking to spend some quality time together. Whether you’re an active couple who wants to hit the hiking trails, or you prefer to be pampered in one of the fancy spas, there’s something for every couple in Sedona.

Take a hot air balloon ride

One of the most romantic things to do in Sedona is to see the sights from the sky by taking a hot air balloon ride over the red rocks. Imagine floating gently above the town while you sip champagne and take in the gorgeous vistas with your loved one. It’s an unforgettable adventure and a great way to start your romantic getaway in Sedona.

Go on a scenic hike

Another romantic activity in Sedona is to go on a scenic hike through the red rock formations. There are lots of trails to choose from, whether you want a challenging hike or a relaxing stroll. They all offer stunning views while you spend some quality time together!

For a more relaxed time, head out on Soldier’s Pass. It’s an easy hike with a flexible length and takes you past several cool landmarks like Devil’s Sink Hole and the Seven Sacred Pools.

There’s lots to be done right in town: red rock gazing, hiking, shopping, dining, relaxing, etc. But you can see even more impressive sights by taking a scenic drive up Oak Creek Canyon. Get out at Midgely Bridge to explore and get some cool photos, and then just enjoy the unique landscape as you cruise.

For maximum adventurous and romance, consider going horseback riding together. Several companies in Sedona offer horseback riding tours through the red rocks, giving you the opportunity to explore the area on horseback and enjoy the views together.

You can also book a private horseback riding lesson if you and your partner are new to horseback riding and want to learn alongside a professional.

Visit a winery or brewery

Sedona is home to a number of wineries and breweries, making it a great place for couples who enjoy trying new wines and craft beers. You can choose your tour based on length, terrain quality, and sights to see. Tours range from 90 minutes to a full 11-hour day!

Get spiritual

While you’re in Sedona, don’t miss visiting the Chapel of the Holy Cross. Whether you consider yourself to be religious or not, this views from this spot are really neat and the chapel built into the rock is interesting to visit.

Want to get REALLY romantic? You can get married at the Chapel of the Holy Cross (it just requires some preparation). And hey, if you’re not ready for the ceremony but it’s in the plans, Sedona is a pretty fantastic place for a proposal!

Shop for the perfect souvenir

You’ll find lots of interesting, unique shops in Sedona, including more traditional souvenir shops, upscale boutiques, local handmade crafts and treats, and shops specializing in crystals and the metaphysical.

Walk up and down the main street in Uptown Sedona for lots of great shops, and head to the south side of town to visit Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village for the best local goods.

It can be fun and romantic to split up and buy a souvenir for each other. Either way, make sure to take something home to remind yourselves of your romantic time in Sedona!

Have a romantic dinner

There are restaurants to delight all tastes in Sedona, but you’ll find the specialty to be Mexican! There are also some great American grill spots and Italian kitchens. Whichever you choose, sitting down to a nice meal is a great way to cap off a day of adventure, relaxation, or both!

Watch the sunset

The sunset is Sedona is known for being very picturesque — how could it not with such a beautiful background as the red rocks? You can get a good view from several locations without having to hike, but those who do will be rewarded with one of the most beautiful sunsets ever. Just remember you’ll have to hike back out in the dark!

Go stargazing

The romance continues after the sun goes down in Sedona…you can go stargazing! Sedona is known for its dark skies and clear view of the stars, making it a great place to cuddle up with your loved one and admire the beauty of the night sky.

You can go stargazing on your own or take a guided tour with a local company that will provide you with telescopes and other equipment to help you get the most out of your stargazing experience.
